April 2022 Pest Outlook for Bryan Texas
April 2022 will likely see much of the weird weather that January, February, and March brought to Texas. The constant warming, cooling, freezing, warming cycle plays havoc with many natural cycles including flower production. While flowers are not specifically a local pest control issue, they regulate other life cycles of organisms that are pests, such as ants.
The Big Three Pest Issues that we expect to see include:
- ANTS – Ants are opportunists and each time the weather warms up, they will emerge from their colony to make short foraging and food gathering trips. They will duck back into their nest for cooler weather and rain, and then reemerge again to forage. If ants are not successful in stretching their food supply, they will move to another location. Expect ant infestations in homes and outbuildings for April 2022.
- Rodents – The weird weather also benefits rodents. Squirrels will wake up and seek food and then go back to nesting. Younger squirrels may emerge early and seek shelter around homes and in landscaping. Mice and rats are active during warmer weather but may not be able to find food – seeds, grasses, and other plant material – in large enough volumes to sustain them. Expect mice and rat infestations in homes during April 2022.
- Fleas and Ticks – Fleas and ticks will be active early and especially on warmer days. Once they find a host, they will be able to weather the cold weather so long as their host stays warms. Fleas will seed larger animals, such as deer and smaller organisms such as mice, rats, and squirrels. If you have pets, be sure to check them for fleas often.
