Back to School and Bed Bugs
It is back-to-school time for kids, and that includes your college-aged young adults. But, even with the lockdown, bed bugs still lurk in places such as schools and universities. The massive amount of transient traffic — kids coming and going, dorms emptying and filling — is a perfect habitat for bed bugs.
Can Children Bring Home Bed Bugs?
Bed bugs populate many places, and schools are just one of those places. Daycare, kindergarten, elementary schools, grade schools, junior high, and high schools are all places where we find bed bugs. That is not to say that every school has bed bugs, but some will. So if you thought lice infestations were bad, wait until bed bugs unleash on you.
Colleges and universities are no different. With the number of college students coming and going each semester, bed bugs are bound to show up sooner or later. We say that because humans are the primary way bed bugs spread from one location to the next.
Bed Bugs and Home Infestations
There are a few ways that bed bugs get into our homes. One is by bringing home used furniture. If there are bed bugs or bed bug eggs in the furniture, you’ve introduced bed bugs to your home.
Another way bed bugs get into our homes is when we travel. If we stay in a motel, they can get into our luggage, and we bring them home. For kids, staying at someone’s house where bed bugs live is another way to bring them home. Backpacks at school and sweatshirts and jackets are other ways that children bring bed bugs home from school.
If you suspect there are bed bugs in your home, give us a call. We can schedule a home evaluation service call and tell you for sure if there are bed bugs present.
