Carpenter Bee Control – Bryan and College Station
Carpenter bees are excellent pollinators, but they also damage homes, fences, and outbuildings with their boring. These are larger bees that drill finger-sized holes into the wood where they make chambers in which they lay eggs. Preventing carpenter bee issues can be as simple as staining or painting wooden portions of your home, decking, or outbuildings. Or simply, just offer the bees their own bee hotel!
Deck Damage
Deck Problems – Carpenter bees drill into unpreserved wood, and they can cause a lot of problems with decking material. They will damage the support beams and pillars that hold the deck up or drilling to the railings and posts that create a safety barrier on the top of the deck.
Home Damage
Homes – Carpenter bees will drill into the siding, eaves, and porch pillars causing damage to all wood surfaces.
Fence Damage
Fences – Wooden fences are beautiful, and they attract carpenter bees by the droves. The fence posts particularly attractive, and they will drill into these causing damage to the fence.
Not all species of carpenter bees are wood drillers. Some build nests in the ground, especially under shrubs. The easiest way to avoid carpenter bee damage is to make sure that new wood is painted or stained. They tend not to like drilling into the wood that is not in its raw state. As mentioned, carpenter bees are great pollinators, and their aggressive stance is mostly a bluff. You have to really go out of your way to get stung by a carpenter bee.
Pest control measures, include controlling their population by removing the eggs or treating the eggs so that they do not hatch. Carpenter bees live for 1-2 years depending on the species, and once you control their population, the damage they do is minimal. If you have painted the exposed wood around your home and still have issues with carpenter bees, eradication is possible, or you can put up faux structures, such as a 4×4 wooden post and let them drill into that wood.
