Birds as Pests
There are a surprising number of birds that are pests. Pest birds come in many forms. They include those that dive-bomb you as you walk down the street and the ones that defile your vehicles and home with their dropping. Plus, the ones that nest in the wall space of your house and those that get into the garbage.
Small Bird Pests
Smaller birds can be more trouble. They can easily fit into tiny holes in the siding to get into the wall space of your home or outbuildings. Once in the wall space, they build a nest and go about raising a family. That means they are pulling insulation as nesting material. They also make a lot of noise, and that can keep you awake at night or drive your pets crazy.
Nest Protectors
Sometimes you get an aggressive bird that nests in a tree or shrub near your home. Then, when you walk by, they dive bomb you and peck. That experience can be very startling and painful. Blackbirds and blue jays are two species of birds that do a great job of protecting their nests.
The Garbage Birds
If you have ever wondered what got into the garbage, the culprit may not be a dog, cat, or raccoon. It may have been a bird. Crows are excellent and finding ways to get into garbage cans. Vultures will also lift the lid on a garbage can and drag the trash out to see if it’s edible.
