It’s Cockroach Season
Fall is the season of the cockroach. The changing weather and the warm summer means that cockroach populations are high in number. As available food supplies begin to shrink, cockroaches start to roam around looking for winter housing, a sustainable food supply, and access to water. All three of those features are available in homes throughout the Bryan and College Station communities.
The Types of Cockroach You Find in Homes
Worldwide there are about 24 species of cockroaches. While that might make it easier to hear that, for the most part, there are only four species that we find in homes around Bryan, Texas. Those are:
- The German Cockroach
- The American Cockroach
- The Brown-banded Cockroach
- The Oriental Cockroach.
Naming these pests is essential because they do not all behave the same. Our expert knowledge of pests helps us to help you live pest-free. Because we understand the different ways that cockroaches behave, we can identify the type(s) that are in your home, business, or multi-family unit, and design a system that eradicates them.
Cockroach in the Home
Most of us know that at night, when we turn on a light, there might be a scurrying of feet as the cockroaches flee. Did you know that some species also fly? The good news is that those cockroaches that fly don’t fly very well. The American Cockroach is more of a glider and will happily take to the air to get from a high place to a lower place.
Cockroaches eat dead things, and entomologists think that they may be a sink for agents that cause diseases such as the bacteria that cause salmonella or those that cause staph.
