Late Fall Insect Pests
Late fall and winter insect pests are not uncommon. Many have figured out ways to overwinter and remain active. Inside we list a few of those winter pests and signs you can look for to see if they are in your house.
Cockroaches
Always willing to share your house, cockroaches are active all year long when they can find a warm spot to overwinter. They don’t need a lot of food to remain active, and there are usually enough food scraps in a house to keep them well fed. Look for poop along baseboards, in cupboards, under the sinks, and even in the oven. You may find a dead cockroach now and then. They are nocturnal, so flick the light on in the kitchen and look for them.
Spiders
Some species of spiders live for many years before they die. The most problematic are the black widow and brown recluse. The rest will likely not bother you but may also be unsettling. If you have spiders in your home, give us a call, and we can evict them.
Stink Bugs
Seems each fall, there is a parade of stink bugs that try to make their way into homes. Stink bugs can live a few years if they are not subjected to the elements. One of the nastiest bites from all insects comes from hemipterans – stink bugs, assassin bugs, ambush bugs. Their mouth is a straw-like proboscis that they jab into you, which is painful, and the bite can swell immensely. They use an anticoagulant that burns. Stink bugs are not something you want in your home.
