Don’t Feed the Babies
Early Summer is a prime to encounter baby animals such as baby raccoons. If you happen upon a baby animal, leave it alone and do not touch it. Chances are that its’ mother is nearby. When we touch baby animals we leave our scent on them and that can be enough for the mother to reject the baby.
What to Do if You Think that the Baby is Abandoned?
- Don’t touch it.
- Call a local wild life care center to check about the baby’s natural habits. Some animals only look like babies but are indeed ready to be on their own.
- Do not feed wild animals it makes them dependent upon humans.
If the baby is abandoned, then call our professionals and we can come out and remove it or transport it safely to a care center.
It is very common to find baby raccoons, skunks, and possum that appear to be orphans. It is important to disturb them or go near them. Sometimes the mothers will protect the babies if she thinks they are in danger. Nobody wants to be attacked by a mother racoon or bitten by a skunk. Many of these animals can carry rabies and the preventative shots required to prevent rabies are painful.
Baby Birds
There are a few species of birds, such as the cow bird that will lay their eggs in another bird’s nest and then fly away. When the baby birds hatch, the imposter will kick the mother’s natural babies out of the nest. If you find baby birds, call a care center to see if they can help. Baby birds eat a lot of food and you have to make sure that you have the right kind of food. Not all birds eat insects or worms. Many are seed eaters.
