Fox in Bryan?
Bryan is home to Red Fox, and Gray Fox. Generally, these animals are not pests, but on occasion can cause trouble around a home. The primary complaint is with foxes and livestock such as chickens. There are occasions when people call because a fox has made a den under a shed or that they see one hanging around a lot.
Foxes in general are usually nocturnal, though during mating season you may see a rouge male searching for a mate. A fox is an opportunistic hunter and they will take pets that are small. Some can climb trees and fences like a cat, while others remain on the ground. Another reason you might see a fox hanging around is that it is sick. During the hot months of the year, water can be scares too and homes and yards often have water or food.
What to do about a fox sighting?
If it is just the one sighting there is really nothing much to do. See a fox is not a bad thing, but if they are actively hanging out in your yard or in the area, then they are more of a concern. If a fox can get into your chicken coop, the problem is not necessarily with the fox, but rather the coop. If you have chickens that go missing and you see a fox, it may not be the fox that got the chicken. Raccoons, hawks, bob cats, and even mountain lions will take chickens.
