Pest Outlook for January 2022
Welcome to the new year. Inside we go over our expectations for pest control issues throughout January and February 2022.
The Weird Weather
The unusually warm weather is a big problem for pest issues around your home or business. Warm weather, and it has been hot in December, means that more varieties of pests stay active longer. Insects, rats, mice, larger wildlife, and other pests benefit from the warm weather. In the case of insects, many cannot tolerate the cold, but on warm days, they become active and continue to search for food and water.
Expect more pest issues at the beginning of January.
The Cold Weather
We’ve just had our first round of winter weather, which will help kill many smaller pests such as wasps, flies, and mosquitoes. But, unfortunately, it also acts as a catalyst for some groups of pests, such as rodents, who will push to find warm shelter, food, and water.
Usually, we deal with the change of weather in the Fall, not the winter. By wintertime, the cold has set in, and many pest groups have died off or are overwintering. Not so this year.
Expect More Pest Issues
January may settle down a bit for pest service calls except for rodents and wildlife. These creatures will remain active and search for food and water. Outside, plenty of water is available, but not too much food. Garbage cans remain a prime target for pests, and many smaller pests – rats and rodents are going to seek out shelter in homes and businesses.
