September Pest Outlook Bryan, Texas
The pest outlook for Bryan and College Station remains the same. We expect an increase in pest service calls due to the influx of students in August. Outside of that, we expect that rodents, wasps, flies, and indoor pests such as fleas (and potentially even bed bugs!) to be high on the list of service calls.
Flies and Mosquitoes
Flies – Expect ongoing pestering from small biting flies as well as mosquitoes and houseflies. Fruit flies, drain flies, and gnats also are at the peak of their cycle and will continue to annoy homeowners and businesses.
Mice, Rats, and Squirrels
Rodents – Mice and rats remain a top concern as they are looking for food and places to shelter. As fall approaches, squirrels will begin to look for den sites or build nests. That activity means home attics, outbuildings, and other structures are in danger. Squirrels will happily make a nest in a wall space, attic, or shed.
Vipers and Snakes
Snakes – The large population of rodents and birds mean that snakes are very active and feeding. Be on the lookout for snakes around homes and yards, especially in the late afternoon when they slither onto cement patios and doorsteps to sun themselves. Rattlesnakes remain a top threat around Bryan and College Station.
Wasps and Hornets
Wasps – Yellowjackets and hornets continue to be pests, and as you enjoy those outdoor meals, the wasp will continue to annoy you and your family. Baiting stations can help, but the best solution is to remove the colony.
Indoor Pests
Indoor Pests – Fleas and ticks are also starting to return, and indoor pets are prime targets. Cockroach, silverfish, and kitchen pests are also at a high. September is the time of year we also receive calls about bed bugs. Summer travel might have brought home more than a surprise. Bed bugs feed on human blood, and they disperse as humans travel. Vacation, summer school, campouts, and other summer travel adventures may mean bed bugs.
