Three Creepy Crawlers that Emerge Each Spring
There are many types of insects and other pests that show up each spring. These are three of the most common springtime pests.

Perhaps the ultimate in creepy crawling pests are the spiders. Most build webs and stay there, but some, like the wolf spiders, roam about looking for prey and mates. Wolf spiders are not medically dangerous, but their bite is painful. Black widow and brown recluse spiders are medically dangerous, though their bites do not usually cause death to humans. Their venom, however, can cause severe medical reactions, including the loss of limbs and severe wounds that require months to heal.
Ants
Ever-present, the ant is one of the most common household pests. There are over 250 species of ants in Texas, and almost all of them will invade your home. The most painful of these is the red or black fire ant.
Ants are related to bees and wasps, and just like their flying cousins, they sting. The sting from an ant can be mild or extremely painful. The bullet ant gets its name because when it stings you, it feels as though you’ve been shot. Thankfully, we do not have bullet ants in Texas. In Texas, the fire ant carries the most painful sting, and they make you feel as though your skin is burning.
The Common Earwig
Rumored to eat brains, these ancient insects look the part. Thankfully, they do not “often” eat brains. Instead, they feed on decaying plant matter found around your yard. They will also damage and consume small seedlings making them one of the worst garden pests around Texas.
