Keeping Your Home or Business Free of Pests
What are some of the many tricks you can use to keep your home or business free of pests? Inside we go over a few tips that are easy to use and only cost a little elbow grease.
1. Keep the Yard Clean
Yard debris, which comes in many forms, makes a fantastic place for insects, rodents, and creepy crawlies to find shelter, create a nest, and raise their young.
By simply keeping the leaves raked up in the fall, the shrubs trimmed in the winter or spring, and the piles of lumber or other things out of the yard, you remove the opportunity that many pests rely on to keep safe and warm.
2. Clean Regularly
While even the cleanest house can sometimes have pest issues, regular cleaning helps keep pests that look for food on the run. Little bits of food are buffets for insects; Ants love little treats. Cockroaches love the leftovers, and flies love anything that is decaying. Cleaning to prevent pest infestation is not just about doing regular chores. Keeping the pantry clean is a good example. Spilled dried goods will attract rodents. Cleaning out the drawers once a year is a good habit. These little extra chores go a long way to keep pests out of your food.
3. Think Smart About Storage
Rodents, spiders, cockroaches, and ants love to live under or in things that you don’t use often—store food in air-tight containers and store clothing in plastic bins with tight-fitting lids. In the attic and garage, store keepsakes and decorations in bins that keep out rats, mice, spiders, and moths. Prevention is half of the battle, and an ounce of prevention goes a long way.
