Pre-emergent Pest Control
Pre-emergent pest control helps keep pest populations low so that they do not cause an emergency pest control service call. Pre-emergent means before the pests show up around your house or business. Insects, especially, emerge at different times throughout the year. An example of an insect that emerges would be yellowjackets, which appear once the weather becomes warm.
The Cycle of Insect Pests
Insects are here all year long. They exist in different forms, so we often do not notice they are here. Take fleas, for example. Fleas have four levels to their lifecycle. You may not notice adult fleas on your pets or in your home, but there are flea eggs, larvae, and pupa. Most of these are small and go unnoticed until your pet starts scratching. You find flea eggs, larvae, and pupa in carpets, fabric furniture, and other places where their smallness is not apparent. Once the egg hatches, it becomes a larva and then a pupa, emerging as an adult. The adult flea hops around looking for blood, which fleas consume.
The lifecycle of insects is either complete or incomplete. Fleas, wasps, bees, beetles, and many other insects have a complete lifecycle. Stink bugs are an example of an insect with an incomplete lifecycle. They emerge from the egg as miniature versions of the adult called instars. They molt and grow until they reach the adult stage.
Emergent and Timing
Certain pests, primarily insects, appear according to weather conditions – heat, cold, etc., and they often follow natural signs within the environment. Bees emerge early and remain around most of the summer and into fall. Some species, for example, are flower specific – Mason bees are keen on orchard blossoms, so they emerge and hibernate when the orchards begin to bloom and when the flowering period for orchard trees end. Their emergent schedule as an adult is very short. That means they spend more time as either an egg, larvae, or pupa.
Yellowjackets also follow a cycle that is associated with heat. The warmer summer weather brings more opportunities to find food. Other animals have had young; there are more dead things around they can scavenge, etc.
Pre-emergent pest control looks carefully at how the natural cycle of pests works.
Pre-emerging Pest Control
Pre-emergent pest control decreases the other segments of an insect’s lifecycle; It kills eggs, pupa, and larvae for fleas, so few to no pupa emerge as adults. The flea lifecycle goes from the egg – larvae – pupa – to adult. A pre-emergent pest control plan would address fleas in all four stages of their life cycle.
For beetles, the same is true. Beetles exist in all four lifecycle stages. Therefore, regardless of the insect pest’s type of lifecycle, we can address their presence so that their populations stay so small that they cause minor damage and go unnoticed.
What You Can Do
Pre-emergent pest control is part of our monthly pest control service. We visit your property each month with a plan to deal with pests before they emerge. The service is affordable and billed monthly and is a much more economical way to deal with pest control issues. In addition, our pre-emergent pest control option helps reduce the possibility of emergency pest control service calls which are more expensive.
The benefit of a monthly pest control service is that you experience fewer pest issues and avoid emergency service calls.
