Winter Pest Control Helps Control Spring Pests
There are some things that you can do as a property or homeowner to help reduce the volume of pests that you deal with come spring and summer. Winter is a wonderful time of year to do just that. Here is a short list of DIY products that really help.
- Be vigilant about removing spider webs from the outside of your home. The adult spider has probably died and all that remain is the egg sac which is protected in a thick layer of insulating silk. Getting rid of the egg sac means fewer spiders next spring and that is a plus. Also do the same inside of your home.
- Change your porchlight and outdoor light from white light to yellow. The light attracts insects such as moths and where you have moths you have spiders. Yellow is a softer light that insects tend to ignore. In the case of moths, they are designed to navigate by the light of the moon and the stars so they are very much attracted to white light sources.
- Check for entry points around hose bibs and other plumbing fixtures where the pipe exits the home. These areas are prime entry point for pests such as spiders, mice, and other rodents. Keeping those entry points sealed is a great way to reduce the number of pests that enter your home. During the winter months, be sure to check those spots to see if anything has gnawed its way through.
- Schedule a pest inspection so that our professionals can treat around windows, doors and vents so that roaming insects, such as cockroach, never make it into your home.
