Green Pesticides
Green pesticides are chemicals that while green in manufacturing offer many of the same results as do pesticides that are not green. The term green does not mean that these chemicals are less effective it simply means that they are generally not as risky to use as are traditional pesticides. It is difficult to say safer when these solutions are designed to kill pests.
Green pesticides offer a wide array of pest control options.
There are many forms of green pest control products and they range from ingredients that are 100 percent natural to chemicals that are biodegradable or that do not bind to the soil or have a long activation period.
Do Green Pesticides Work?
Most do a fine job of controlling pest; however, there needs to bee some forethought in how you select each type of pesticide that you use. This is true of both green pesticides and traditional pest control products.
Pests are not all the same – How you approach dealing with moles or voles is very different from how you would control snails. For that reason, it is important to ditch the broad-spectrum tools and focus on matching a green pesticide to a pest or family of pests. Doing so allows you to have better control over what is affected by the solution and typically, greater results against the pest you need destroyed.
Fly spray is a good example of what we mean when we say – ditch the broad-spectrum pesticides. Fly spray does kill flies and usually everything else too.
Pesticide Applications Are Not All Positive
When you spray fly spray in your home, the particles travel through the air and some hit the fly and it dies. The rest land on surfaces – floors, walls, counters where they remain and are just as effective. Put you hand on the counter and your skin could be absorbing all the toxins in the fly spray residual droplets left on the counter. Further, some pesticides d not clean up easily. So, you mop the floor. You could just be smearing the droplets around the floor where your pets walk, children play, or where you walk barefooted in the morning to get your coffee. All of that contact is exposing your body, your pets, and your children to the toxins of the residual fly spray.
