Fall Rodent Invasions
Fall is one of the most active times of the year for rodents. By now, litters of mice and rats born in the spring have grown enough to have several litters of babies too. It’s a population explosion, and many are looking for indoor nesting locations.
Why So Many Mice In The Kitchen.
By October, the rodent populations are enormous. The preharvest and post-harvest time of year mean that there is plenty of food around to feed a growing population of mice and rats.
Then suddenly, that food supply begins to dwindle, and hungry rodents are looking for more food and warmer places to build nests. Homes offer both a warmer place to overwinter and a place to find plenty of food and water.
Signs of Rodent Invasions
One of the most apparent signs of rodent invasions is mouse poop. You will find feces in drawers, on cupboards, and in pantries. You may also begin to hear mice or rats at night. Most rodents are nocturnal, and as you go to sleep, they begin to race around, making all kinds of noise.
If you have a cat, they will likely notice the presence of rodents first.
Another sign that mice or rats are in your home is spoiled food. They will chew their way into cereal, grains, and other food stored in your pantry or cupboard.
